Welcome to Kastawayz Art
Welcome to Kastawayz Art, where you’ll discover a delightful collection of original art comprised of over 90% recycled materials, and skilfully fashioned into one-of-a-kind
sculptures and contemporary treasures by material artists Kerry and Amanda Illerbrun.
K
erry and Amanda have returned to Kerry’s homeland from New Zealand and bring
with them a mosaic of South Pacific influences. Their artwork reflects an enthusiasm
for their active outdoor lifestyle, spent exploring the beautiful beaches of the southern
Pacific Ocean with its warm waters and abundant marine life, and now here on the east
coast of Vancouver Island. Equally diverse is the influence of the cultural heritage they
draw from, which includes traditional and contemporary influences from Maori, Pacific
Islanders, and European. Created from metal, wood, even tile and concrete, each
unique piece appeals to someone. Like a day spent walking the high tide line, you never
know what might catch your eye!
Kastawayz Art works are both created and displayed in their small studio located in Courtenay, BC on beautiful Vancouver Island. As the Illerbruns’ have settled into their coastal lifestyle, their artwork has evolved to reflect the marine and wild life of their new surroundings. Instead of the familiar john dory fish, pukeko bird and weta insects of New Zealand, their current work has taken on the new shapes of Pacific salmon, herons, and grasshoppers.
Featured in fine art stores and galleries in New Zealand, Kastawayz art has also been displayed at Vancouver Island arts events such as the Filberg Festival, Kitty Coleman Woodland Garden Art Show, Market Days, Tin Town Mystery Tour, Campbell River’s Pier Street Christmas Market and at both Barton Leier Galleries in Cedar and downtown Nanaimo.
